Transgender fertility preservation and treatment

Hormonal and surgical treatment for men and women transitioning to a new gender can impact on their fertility.

We offer transgender men and women the option of preserving their fertility prior to physical transitioning actions.

Options available for trans men and women:

Egg freezing - transgender men take fertility drugs to stimulate their ovaries and the eggs are collected by a surgical procedure under sedation and then frozen and stored.

Sperm freezing – transgender women produce a sperm sample, which is then frozen and stored.

Embryo freezing – an option for transgender men and women, when the couple wish to preserve their fertility options before one member begins transitioning. Embryos after IVF are frozen and stored.

Ovarian tissue cryopreservation – for girls wishing to start transitioning before puberty. Ovarian tissue is collected by a surgical procedure, frozen and stored.
