According to a recent report from the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA), more people than ever are having fertility treatment. The team at the Complete Fertility Centre Southampton is witnessing this first hand having carried out 10,000 appointments in the last year. The increase in demand and investment in new technology and facilities is why the clinic is moving to a brand new, bespoke premises in Chandlers Ford to continue to help patients from Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Sussex and other counties further afield.

The national data shows a 64% increase in egg freezing and fertility preservation cycles and a 10% rise in IVF donor insemination (DI) cycles between 2019 and 2021. The team at the Complete Fertility are seeing a similar trend amongst its own patients.

Prof Ying Cheong, Professor of Reproductive Medicine and Medical Director of Complete Fertility explains:

“It is excellent to see the continued increase in fertility treatment cycles when the birth rate in the UK, like many parts of the world, has reached its lowest. The dramatic rise in egg and embryo freezing signals a medical and social acceptance and demand to preserve fertility.

“Like the national report demonstrates, we are also witnessing an increase in egg, sperm embryo and donor cycles and we expect this to grow substantially. This has been one of the major drivers behind the need for a new, larger and bespoke premises. We have invested over £3.5million in the new laboratory and supporting facilities.

“Fertility treatments have advanced so much in the last 25 years and will continue to do so. For example, patients’ embryos are housed in specialised incubators called embryoscopes which take digital images every 10 minutes while embryos are in the IVF laboratory. This level of detail of early embryonic development allows our clinical embryologists choose the embryo(s) with the best chances of implantation to transfer or freeze. Every step of the way we are considering what is best for the patient and a successful outcome.”

Clinic Director Georgina Collins stated:

“What makes our new clinic stand out is it has been designed by the team, our clinical team. It is the only fertility clinic in the South situated in a premises designed specifically with the patient journey in mind. From easy car parking to a state-of-the-art IVF theatres and embryology laboratory and cryostorage facilities, every aspect has been considered with the patient’s optimum outcome in mind. It offers privacy for donors, confidential and comfortable rooms for counselling and an excellent clinical environment for treatments. Patients, their cycles and consultations have been carefully considered as a priority as we move the clinic."

The team of 50 fertility experts at the Complete Fertility Centre include a director, specialist nurses, counsellors, embryologists, an experienced administration team and some of the country’s leading research consultants and fertility experts.

Currently, the clinic can be found at Princess Anne Hospital in Southampton but from 20th July patients will be directed to the new address: Complete Fertility, Ground Floor, Unit 3, Hampshire House, Hampshire Corporate Park, Templars Way, Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh SO53 3RY.
